Seattle Seahawks Blanket

A good friend is a football fanatic - and specifically a Seattle Seahawks fan. She watched a game at our house recently, snuggled under a thick blanket I crocheted for my daughter. By the time the game was over, I had committed to make her a blanket in Seahawks colors.

I wanted to try a new stitch - something completely different. So I zeroed in on this.

I am really happy with the unique design and the way the colors work together.

I finished it off with 2 rows of single stitch in the dark navy, and 1 row of double crochet.

Now my friend has an awesome blanket to wrap up in as our Seahawks embark on their best year yet!

Cardholders

It all started with a simple Crochet-Along. A harmless little activity that brings fellow crochet fanatics together. Rachel Choi, who runs a great website called The Crochet Spot put this together and offered up a free pattern for a cardholder . If you're like me, your wallet is bursting at the seams with loyalty cards and gift cards. This handy little cardholder pattern is just the ticket for organizing that pile of cards. It also provides a unique way to package gift cards for gift giving, and it's the perfect project for using up scrap yarn.

Sunglasses Case

I needed something to keep my sunglasses in so they wouldn't get scratched up. I wear the big "Jackie O" style shades and most store-bought cases are too snug, so I whipped this one up using Lion Brand Homespun yarn in Granite. The stars were made with some scrap yarn I had in a soft mauve-pink. Pattern: Size H crochet hook Ch 30 Round 1: Sc in second ch from hook, then each remaining ch. Ch 2 and turn. Round 2: Hdc in each sc across. Ch 1 and turn. Round 3-17: Continue alternating rows of sc and Hdc. Add a row of edging or leave squared off (I added a row of scalloped edging) Fold in half and join both sides together using sc stitches along the seam and bottom edge. Fasten off. Turn inside out to hide the seams Embellish with your favorite appliqué. I used this star pattern .

Basket Weave Blanket

My daughter's boyfriend wanted a blanket. I let him pick out the colors and the pattern. He chose a basket weave design in 4-colored squares. I have to admit, when I first got started on this labor of love (it took about 2 months to finish), I had serious doubts. The colors reminded me of the Partridge Family bus from my childhood. I was struggling with the design - which colors to put together, whether I wanted to make vertical rows or diagonal rows of the same colors, etc. - but Shayne made it clear that he wanted the final pattern to be completely random. Being the type A person that I am, even that concept had me nervous! Now that it's completed, though, I have to give credit to Shayne. Somehow the colors worked. Somehow that randomness found it's way into the final product. Even my dog Dublin liked the way it turned out. :) This blanket is a total of 40 completed 8" x 8" squares.
